Hammershøi exhibition at the museum of jacquemart-andre.

There are many small intimate museums in Paris A few days ago I went to visit one of them, the museum of jacquemart-andre. The museum was created from the private home of Édouard André (1833–1894) and Nélie Jacquemart (1841–1912) to display the art they collected during their lives . There is a more intimate  experience when going to these kind of collections, it's not as known as the other  museums in Paris like the Luxembourg museum, or the Delacroix museum, but from time to time they have some good art exhibited and interesting paintings on desplay. On their private collection they have a few true gems like the fresco made  by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo , or landscapes by Giovanni Antonio Canal, better known as Canaletto,  2 still lives by Jean Siméon Chardin, An amazing Giovanni Bellini painting, and many other great pieces.

I went with my family to see the Vilhelm Hammershøi exhibition, there were a few amazing paintings by  him mainly sketches, but the overall feeling was that his paintings were a little bit cold and not rich enough in color. in some paintings it worked to his advantage creating a very subtle color relationship in the paintings, in the less successful paintings it seemed to me that he just became monochromatic and boring , his sketches however carried a vitality and wormth the finish paintings lacked (as often happens to almost all great painters).

I think what surprised me the most was the number of people coming to the exhibition, it happened on jacquemart-andre last exhibition as well with carrvaggio, I think people nowadays still do appreciate realism and representational painting but they see it as part of history and not as a part of a living art. Here are a few photos from the visit

Hi Sam! Thank you so much for reviewing the museum of jacquemart-andre! I want to visit Paris again and go to some of these out of the main stream museums. Are you working with Julian again down in Provence?
